3 Facts about Ayako
I love taking visitors on food tours in Tokyo and sharing lists of my favorite places to eat!
I can not live without nuts! I have a weakness for pecans, cashew nuts and pistachios. 😋
I was a stand-up comedian in NYC - I have a host of tricks up my sleeve to ease even the most camera-shy person! For 22 years, I have dedicated my life to the art of the portrait.
For 22 years, I have dedicated my life to the art of the portrait.
As a visual storyteller, I strive to capture authentic, honest moments through a photojournalistic lens, because I love nothing more than witnessing and documenting genuine, spirited human connection.
My technical foundation was built at the world’s leading art institutions, graduating from the University of the Arts London and studying at The Cooper Union in New York City. I began my career in the high-stakes world of rock and roll, assisting an elite photographer who shot legends like The Who and Metallica, while simultaneously honing my narrative skills making documentaries for the Discovery Channel.
After working for major newspapers in London, I moved to Monaco, where I spent 9 years photographing the world’s most elite racers. This journey ultimately saw my work featured on the global stage within the pages of The New York Times, The Guardian, and Harper’s Bazaar. I believe there is a profound difference between taking a picture and creating an image; quality isn’t a filter, it is a history of dedication.
My perspective behind the camera is deeply informed by a life lived across many artistic disciplines. When I am not behind the lens, I am a licensed Kimono Kitsuke master and an apprentice to an eighty-three-year-old kimono painting master, a practice that keeps me grounded in the delicate precision of my Japanese heritage.
My ability to connect with subjects is uniquely rooted in my time as a stand-up comedian in New York City. Furthermore, as an amateur opera singer, pianist, and cellist, I bring a sense of musical rhythm and emotional crescendo to every image I compose. When you hire me, you are investing in over two decades of commercial excellence and an artistic eye refined across the world’s most iconic cultural landscapes.
I’m also a photographer for flytographer.
